=💡 The Sheet Tip (The power of F4)
Have you ever needed to divide a range of numbers by the same number? For example, everything in your column is 100x what it should be.
This is a common issue that Excel users encounter, particularly when using the percentage number format. Few people however seem to know this can be quickly fixed by using a batch operator (add, subtract, multiply & divide) in Paste Special.
Here's how to do it:
Enter the divisor value in a blank cell (the number to divide everything by)
Copy that cell (Ctrl + C)
Select the range of numbers you want to divide
Right-click on the selection, go to Paste Special and choose 'Divide' from the options.
Note you can use the following shortcuts to access the paste special menu:
Windows - Ctrl+Alt+V
Mac - Ctrl + Command + V
Voilà! Excel automatically divides each number in the selected range by the divisor value. Please note if you are dealing with percentages using this approach will change your data back to number format, so you will need to change it back to percentages.
Imagine applying this technique to a column of expenses, sales figures, or quantities. Instead of manually typing out division formulas, Paste Special takes care of the work for you. It's a game-changer for saving time and ensuring accuracy, especially when dealing with extensive datasets.
